Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is probably one of the most famous people in the world, and it’s easy to see why. He has been involved in almost every popular form of entertainment, such as wrestling, sports, music, movies, and TV.
The legendary multi-media personality and star of the upcoming Black Adam have had a long and successful career that doesn’t look like it will end anytime soon. However, he hadn’t done much on scripted TV other than HBO’s Ballers for a long time.
That was the case until the first season of Young Rock started on February 16, 2021. Young Rock is a biography of Dwayne Johnson’s life at different ages. It is based on real-life sitcoms like “Everybody Hates Chris,” and it does precisely what the title says.
Season 1 was the most-watched sitcom on NBC in 2021, so there will undoubtedly be a second season, and it may come sooner than you think. Here’s everything you need to know about Season 2 of Young Rock.
Is The Story in Young Rock Real?
Yes, but Young Rock takes some creative liberties to make the story flow better like any significant biopic adaptation. A few of the show’s characters make brief appearances in these parts, but this time they are played by their real-life counterparts instead of the actors who played them when they were younger.
Some parts of the flashbacks are partly genuine, but sometimes they are made more romantic to make the story flow better. Still, Dwayne Johnson and Young Rock showrunner Nahnatchka Khan (Fresh Off the Boat) say that the show is as accurate as possible, with the most significant differences being when certain scenes happen even though the content is the same.
Who is in the Second Season of Young Rock?
Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is in the show, if it wasn’t already clear. He’s in every episode and acts as a voiceover for the flashbacks.
At the three most important times in Johnson’s life, they are all played by different people. Adrian Groulx played a young Rock in the early 1980s when his whole family was a wrestler. Bradley Constant plays Rock as a high school student who is figuring out how to be responsible and provide for his family. Uli Latukefu as Rock when he was in college and played football at the University of Miami.
Dwayne Johnson’s parents also play essential roles in the show. Ata Johnson, who Stacey Leilua plays, is his mother. She’s the classic mother figure that these sitcoms are known for, always caring for and looking out for her son. Johnson’s father and namesake, Rocky Johnson, is also involved. Joseph Lee Anderson, a charismatic and overly optimistic professional wrestler, plays Rocky Johnson.
Plot of “Young Rock” Season 2
“Young Rock” season 2 will probably pick up where season 1 left off. Surprisingly, the first season ends on a cliffhanger, as it seems likely but not confident that Johnson has won the 2032 presidential election. This storyline is expected to end for good in Season 2, meaning that at least part of Season 2 takes place in the White House in 2032.
In the show’s other timelines, it seems likely that Johnson’s time in the Canadian Football League and his ultimate goal of joining the NFL will be explored in more depth. The character’s story could be about how his relationship with Karen (Lexie Duncan) gets more robust in his teen years.
The FBI could also arrest Johnson’s grandmother for extortion in the second season. Johnson’s life has already been told, but it’s clear that there’s still much more to say about it and the actor’s future.
Fans already know that one of the best things about “Young Rock” is how the classic pro wrestling stars are acted out in a sitcom style. This trend will continue in Season 2, as confirmed by Comicbook.com, which says that Jerry “The King” Lawler, Tommy Rich, Bam Bam Bigelow, Haystacks Calhoun, Gene Okerlund, Big John Studd, Freddie Blassie, Mr. Fuji, and The Great Kabuki will all be there. We think it sounds like a lot of fun.
Release Date of Young Rock Season 2?
Young Rock air on NBC on Tuesday, March 15, 2022, and all subscribers will be able to watch on Peacock. There will be new episodes every Tuesday, but nothing else will change. New episodes should come out every Tuesday after March 15, at whatever that time is.
Will There be a Third Season of Young Rock?
Young Rock has not been canceled or picked up for a third season yet. Before Season 1 came out, NBC announced that there would be a second season. This was a smart move since Season 1 of the hit sitcom was the highest-rated comedy show on the whole channel for 2021.
Still, there is no way to tell if Young Rock will come back for a third season. Most of the time, a show’s second season is the best indicator of how long it will last and how popular it will be, so fans will have to wait and see how many people tune in to watch if they want The Rock’s origin story to become a trilogy.
