Craig Breen was an Irish rally driver since his death on April 13th, 2023. He was born on February 2, 1990, and his birthplace is Waterford, Ireland.  He last competed part-time in the World Rally Championship (WRC) for the Hyundai team.

He won the 2012 Super 2000 WRC, taking class victories at the Monte Carlo Rally, Rally France Rally Spain, and  Wales Rally GB. 

In 2018, Breen moved to the Hyundai factory team and competed in several rounds of the WRC. He finished on the podium twice that year, with a third-place finish at Rally Sweden and a second-place finish at Rally Finland.

Breen also contested the Rally of the Lakes in Ireland, winning the event for the second time in his career.

In 2019, Breen competed in the WRC with the Hyundai customer team, running under the banner of “Team MRF Tyres.”

He finished on the podium at Rally Finland, securing his fourth WRC podium finish. Breen also contested the Rally of the Lakes and won the event for the third time in his career.

Breen continued to compete for Hyundai in the WRC in 2020 and 2021, but his results were hampered by technical issues and bad luck.

He scored his best result of the season with a fourth-place finish at Rally Estonia in 2020. In 2021 Breen won BMW M3 E30, in the Rentokil Historic Rally in Killarney, Kerry, Irelan.

The cause of the death of Craig Breen was an accident. Breen died on 13 April 2023 after crashing his Hyundai i20 N Rally1 rally car in a test session for the 2023 Croatia Rally.

At 12.40 pm local time, on a road between Stari Golubovec and Lobor, the front left side of his car hit a pole, seriously injuring Breen. Breen’s co-driver James Fulton was uninjured.

“Hyundai Motorsport sends its condolences to Craig’s family, friends, and his many fans,” it said in a statement.
