At 12.40 pm local time, on a road between Stari Golubovec and Lobor, the front left side of his car hit a pole, seriously injuring Breen. Breen’s co-driver James Fulton was uninjured.
The team did not give further details about the incident but said it happened on Thursday afternoon local time.
“Hyundai Motorsport sends its condolences to Craig’s family, friends, and his many fans,” it said in a statement.
The 33-year-old had made 82 starts in the World Rally Championship (WRC), finishing second in his last race at Rally Sweden in February.
