Thor: Love and Thunder Release Date: Thor: Love and Thunder are set to hit theatres soon. After a lengthy wait, it finally arrives this summer.
The good news is that not only is the sequel just a few months away, but there’s also a first teaser trailer for us to enjoy.
The Guardians of the Galaxy offer some advice to a soul-searching, Thor, in the first footage from the film… Jane Foster grasping Mjolnir, with Natalie Portman making her triumphant comeback to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
It Comes as No Surprise Who Is in the Spotlight
Yep. Chris Hemsworth reprises his role as Thor, the God of Thunder.
Valkyrie, the freshly installed monarch of New Asgard, joins him (Tessa Thompson).
Fans of Loki will be disappointed to learn that Tom Hiddleston will not be reprising his role.
Natalie Portman made a surprise appearance on stage at SDCC 2019.
She would be returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Jane Foster, but not just Jane Foster.
Jane Foster will be The Mighty Thor, a narrative hook straight from comic writer Jason Aaron’s famed mid-2010s Thor run, whether she’s from the multiverse or not.
Portman has just announced that her character would be treated for cancer.
Check out what the comics say about Natalie Portman’s Mighty Thor if you’re not sure what to anticipate.
Russell Crowe has joined the cast of the film and stated that he will portray Zeus. This means we can expect a lot of lightning if the two thunder gods meet.
Sif has been brought back by Jaimie Alexander, and other MCU characters, like Matt Damon repeating his role from Thor: Ragnarok, could be on the way.
On Asgard, he portrayed an actor who played Loki. Sam Neil, who portrayed the role of Odin in the same play, has also hinted at a possible appearance.
Director Taika Waititi will also reprise his role as Korg in front of the camera.
After his debut in Thor: Ragnarok and a cameo in Avengers: Endgame playing against noobmaster69, the rock star will make his third appearance.
Chris Pratt, who plays Star-Lord, joins Vin Diesel as Groot, Karen Gillan as Nebula, Dave Bautista as Drax, and Pom Klementieff as Mantis in the next Thor film.
Grandmaster Is Back: Hemsworth and Waititi Were Sighted in Australia With Jeff Goldblum
We know that Rocket Raccoon is present and accounted for, so we can presume that Bradley Cooper is as well. The Asgardians of the Galaxy are back on the scene.
Anyone else? Grandmaster is back: Hemsworth and Waititi were sighted in Australia with Jeff Goldblum.
Melissa McCarthy has also been spotted on-site, portraying Cate Blanchett’s Hela as an Asgardian.
Christian Bale has signed on to portray Gorr the God Butcher, who played a key role in Jason Aaron’s tenure as the guy who killed deities across time and space, and will be pitted against the Thors.
For Odin’s sake, he effectively became Marvel’s version of Kratos. What’s not to appreciate about that?
Thanks to some set images, we get our first look of Bale in costume, and he’s looking quite comic accurate.
Since then, a LEGO set has revealed an even better view of the villain.
Not only is it a legitimate escalation for Thor – god-killers can surely compete with Thanos in terms of strength – but it’s also a tantalizing proposition given how much inspiration the film appears to be drawing from the pages of the comics.
Thor: Thunder and Love are already stealing space sharks and Jane Foster’s Thor off Aaron’s pages (more on that later). What’s another?
Thor: A Tale of Love and Thunder
There’s also an official synopsis to go along with the first teaser trailer for the film.
The synopsis reads, “The film finds Thor (Chris Hemsworth) on a journey, unlike anything he’s ever experienced — a quest for inner peace.”
“However, his retirement is disrupted by Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale), a galactic killer bent on wiping out the gods.
Thor enlists the support of King Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), Korg (Taika Waititi), and ex-girlfriend Jane Foster (Natalie Portman) to confront the menace.
As the Mighty Thor, he wields his mystical hammer, Mjolnir, inexplicably.
They set out on a perilous cosmic journey together to unravel the secret of the God Butcher’s vengeance and stop him before it’s too late.”
Thor Is Genuinely Dead After Seeing the Teaser!
Some Marvel fans believe Thor is genuinely dead after seeing the teaser, and others believe a mysterious character was cut out of a scene.
What Else Is There to Look Forward to in Thor: Love and Thunder?
It’ll probably have an “Avengers 5 feel,” according to The Hollywood Reporter. “One of the best scripts he’s read in years,” Chris Hemsworth has said. Accurate?
Well, if director Taika Waititi is to be believed, it’ll be Ragnarok ramped up to eleven.
“If you take Ragnarok – which I think was a very large, extravagant, bombastic film,” he told Entertainment Tonight.
We’re trying to build on everything we’ve done so far to make something even crazier, more entertaining, and more of a big, enormous adventure.”
The filmmaker also stated that the film “may be the best Marvel film ever,” which is a strong statement.
Waititi also spoke with The Sydney Morning Herald on the film, revealing that there may not be a Thor 5: The Dark World sequel. He said, “I think this would be funnier.”
“We’ve just amplified everything we accomplished with Ragnarok. Who knows if we do another one after this, but I know we put everything into it.
Every single ludicrous premise, humor, stunt, or character was thrown into this film.
It has exceeded my expectations.” Later, he suggested that the movie is the “He teases Wired about the “craziest” thing he’s ever done, saying, “What I wanted to accomplish from the outset was to ask:
‘What Are the Lowest Expectations for This Franchise?’
Oh, yes, a full-fledged love story!”
Waititi also announced that Korg will be yearning for love in Thor 4 in an Instagram Live video. Space Sharks will also be present. That isn’t a mistake.
During the Thor comic series in 2013, the monsters featured in the comics served as a razor-sharp hurdle for those trying to get close to the wicked Gorr’s world.
Another narrative aspect will be Valkyrie’s search for a partner to govern New Asgard with.
“She’s the queen. “She’ll just be king and queen at the same time if she can’t find her queen,” Thompson stated in an ET interview.
Anything else is simply guesswork at this point.
But, as they say, you have to hypothesize to accumulate, and given how closely Love and Thunder appear to be following narrative themes from Jason Aaron’s run on Mighty Thor, it’s worth considering what might still happen.
Jane Foster’s reappearance undoubtedly signifies a few things but categorizes them as wishes rather than facts.
One, Thor is no longer deserving of the hammer. Nobody knows how it happens, however, Jane may have taken up Mjolnir on the moon in the comics and may do so again here. Another option is that she’s from another dimension.
Having Failed to Stop Thanos
Thanos comes to Vision’s head to claim the sixth and final Infinity Stone.
Thor swooped down and smacked Thanos in the chest, taunting him one final time before delivering the fatal blow.
Unfortunately, Thanos snapped his fingers and completed his plot to wipe off half of all living creatures before he could do so.
Unless you count Clint Barton / Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner) and his family in the pre-credits scene.
Avengers: Endgame picks up just where the last film ended. Thor teams up with Captain Marvel, still suffering from his setback (Brie Larson).
Thanos is hunted down by Rocket Raccoon and the original Avengers roster (excluding Hawkeye) only to learn that he “used the stones to destroy the stones.”
Everything is Fair in Love and Thunder
Thor: Love and Thunder, directed by Taika Waititi, is the God of Thunder’s first MCU appearance since Endgame… But it may also be his final.
Thor will go on a journey of self-discovery in the film’s teaser trailer, and he will formally retire as a superhero.
Those intentions, however, may not last long. As Christian Bale has already been cast as the film’s main adversary, Gorr the God Butcher.
Even though Captain America returned the 2013 Mjolnir to its proper time.
Natalie Portman is set to play Jane Foster, who will wield the original Asgardian hammer.
Which has been rebuilt, adding to the speculation that Thor: Love and Thunder will be a Logan-Esque conclusion for Hemsworth in the role.
Is ‘thor: Love and Thunder’ the Final ‘thor’ Film?
After the events of Avengers: Endgame, Thor: Love and Thunder take place. Thor seeks a new sense of purpose and tranquility after a lengthy Asgardian lifetime of battle.
Meanwhile, Jane Foster (Natalie Portman) appears to be on track to succeed him as God of Thunder after reclaiming a rebuilt Mjolnir and gaining new abilities.
They seek each other’s assistance as they try to prevent Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale) from killing all gods as his name suggests.
In the most recent Thor film, the main figure is at a fork in his life.
He attempts to find fresh purpose in his role in the cosmos after many difficult fights.
He has watched many of his colleagues sacrifice themselves in the course of duty or simply resign as one of the original MCU Avengers.
He’s learned that being a deity is more than just being strong throughout his superhero career.
He’s at a loss for what to do with himself now that he just has a few fights left.
Does This Suggest That Love and Thunder Will Be the Final Thor Film?
With any luck, it won’t be, for the God of Thunder’s place has already been filled by a bright new contender.
With Jane Foster due to take over as the Mighty Thor, it’s feasible that the “Thor” name may be featured prominently in a future film starring Natalie Portman.
The verdict on Chris Hemsworth’s Thor performance is still out.
It is unknown if this will be Chris’s final appearance as Thor as of this writing.
However, theories have circulated. According to a Reddit thread, a scene in the first trailer teases the fate of the original Thor.
Though it appears that Thor is putting Stormbreaker aside as a sign of laying down his war axes, some believe that Jane Foster is marking Thor’s grave with his weapon.
Love and Thunder could reveal a new Thor who could carry on the God of Thunder’s tradition.
The Norse afterlife of Valhalla may be in store for the original Thor. In any case, his trip will eventually come to an end.
On July 8, 2022, Thor: Love and Thunder will be released in theatres.
