Hawkins formed the supergroup NHC with Jane’s Addiction’s Dave Navarro and Chris Haney last year (Navarro, Hawkins, Chaney).

He Died in South America While on Tour

There’s still a lot we don’t know about Hawkins’ death, but he died just hours before Foo Fighters were supposed to perform at the Festival Estéreo Picnic in Bogotá, Colombia.

According to a statement from Bogotá’s secretary of health, emergency responders received a call Friday evening about a patient with chest trouble at a hotel north of the city.

An ambulance was dispatched to the location. Hawkins had previously been receiving treatment from a private health provider, but efforts to resuscitate him were unsuccessful, according to the statement.

Show Was Canceled

As spectators gathered at about 11 p.m., Romeo Reyes, a concertgoer from El Salvador, told CNN that the show was canceled.

“About 10 minutes later,” Reyes claimed, “the news broke that Taylor had died.”
“We were all depressed,” Reyes explained.

The band was scheduled to perform in So Paulo, Brazil, on Sunday after their concert in Colombia.

What the Colombian Attorney General’s preliminary report indicates

A pee toxicology test detected 10 drugs, including THC, tricyclic antidepressants, benzodiazepines, and opioids, according to a preliminary “forensic medical report” issued Saturday by Colombia’s Attorney General’s Office.

An ambulance was dispatched to the hotel in response to a complaint regarding a patient with chest trouble, according to the District Secretary of Health.

A health expert attempted to resuscitate the musician upon arrival, but there was no response, and he was certified dead at the site, according to the group.

Hawkins’ death is the subject of an investigation, according to Colombia’s Attorney General’s Office.

Hawkins’ close buddy, Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith, had “Taylor” spelled out on his bass drum, encircled by a hawk silhouette similar to the one on Hawkins’ arm.

But all tour dates were canceled after Hawkins’ death on March 25.

Grohl’s visit to town over the weekend fuelled suspicions that he would perform.

Smith stepped to the front of the stage, took the microphone, and spoke toward the close of the group’s 90-minute set.

“We adore the Foo Fighters, and we adore Taylor Hawkins, our younger brother.” Being able to play for them has meant a lot to us.”

“We adore you, Taylor!” he joined the audience in chanting.

Ivan Neville’s band Dumpstaphunk paid tribute to the Foo Fighters by playing “Best of You” during the set immediately before the Peppers’.

Grohl also performed at the city’s Preservation Hall on Saturday night for the late-night “Midnight Preserves” performance, which featured Pete Townshend of the Who.

The Peppers dubbed their set a “celebration of Hawkins’ life” a few days before the show.

A few days after Hawkins’ passing, Smith shared a moving video homage to their time together.

“That’s exactly what she desires.”

Hawkins’ death was not officially determined, but medical officials in Colombia.

Where he died before the group was scheduled to perform at a festival. Reported he had numerous substances in his system at the time of his death.
