According to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the band was formed three years after frontman Dave Grohl’s founding, just in time for the band’s tour following the release of “The Colour and the Shape.”
Hawkins told CNN’s Anderson Cooper in a 2014 interview for “60 Minutes” that it took him a time to find his position, referring to Grohl’s legacy as the drummer for the iconic grunge band Nirvana.

He Died in South America While on Tour

According to a statement from Bogotá’s secretary of health, emergency responders received a call Friday evening about a patient with chest trouble at a hotel north of the city.
An ambulance was dispatched to the location. Hawkins had previously been receiving treatment from a private health provider, but efforts to resuscitate him were unsuccessful, according to the statement.
Show Was Canceled
As spectators gathered at about 11 p.m., Romeo Reyes, a concertgoer from El Salvador, told CNN that the show was canceled.
“About 10 minutes later,” Reyes claimed, “the news broke that Taylor had died.”
“We were all depressed,” Reyes explained.
The band was scheduled to perform in So Paulo, Brazil, on Sunday after their concert in Colombia.

What the Colombian Attorney General’s preliminary report indicates
A pee toxicology test detected 10 drugs, including THC, tricyclic antidepressants, benzodiazepines, and opioids, according to a preliminary “forensic medical report” issued Saturday by Colombia’s Attorney General’s Office.
“The National Institute of Forensic Medicine continues medical studies to gain a total explanation of the events that led to Taylor Hawkins’ death,” the report stated, adding that the attorney general’s office will conduct a “timely” investigation into his cause of death.

An ambulance was dispatched to the hotel in response to a complaint regarding a patient with chest trouble, according to the District Secretary of Health.
A health expert attempted to resuscitate the musician upon arrival, but there was no response, and he was certified dead at the site, according to the group.
Hawkins’ death is the subject of an investigation, according to Colombia’s Attorney General’s Office.

Grohl also performed at the city’s Preservation Hall on Saturday night for the late-night “Midnight Preserves” performance, which featured Pete Townshend of the Who.
The Peppers dubbed their set a “celebration of Hawkins’ life” a few days before the show.
A few days after Hawkins’ passing, Smith shared a moving video homage to their time together.

Where he died before the group was scheduled to perform at a festival. Reported he had numerous substances in his system at the time of his death.
