Ross Poldark’s long ride into the sunset and out of our lives starts with the Season 5 premiere of Poldark. Here’s everything you need to know about the show’s season that has kept us on the edge of our seats since the first episode!

Cast of Poldark Season 5

Aidan Turner, Eleanor Tomlinson, Jack Farthing (who plays George Warleggen), Luke Norris (who plays Dwight Enys), Gabriella Wilde (who plays Caroline Enys), Pip Torrens (who plays Cary Warleggen), and Beatie Edney are all coming back for the last time to the world of Poldark (Prudie Paynter).

Ross also meets several new people during his time as an MP. Ross’s former top officer Ned Despard (played by Vincent Regan), and his wife, a formerly enslaved person named Kitty, are the most important (Kerry McLean).

Based on real people from history, they cause trouble for Ross in Poldark as he tries to get Ned released from jail for his abolitionist views.

Ralph Hanson (Peter Sullivan), a shady businessman with ties to the slave trade who wants to work with George, is played by a new bad guy in Season 5 of Poldark.

Geoffrey Charles Poldark, who is now in his late teens and is played by Freddie Wise, will also meet his daughter Cecily, who is played by Lily Dodsworth-Evans. Demelza will get her enemy when she invites the treacherous Tess Tregidden (Sofia Oxenham) to live with her.

Heida Reed also comes back in a few episodes as Elizabeth, even though she died at the end of the last season. Her absence still haunts George.

Plot of Poldark Sesaon 5

For the first time, Season 5 of Poldark won’t be based on Winston Graham’s books. Instead, the last season will occur in the 11-year gap between book seven, “The Angry Tide,” which ends in 1799, and book eight, “The Stranger From the Sea,” which starts in 1810.

Debbie Horsfield, who made the show Poldark, told the BBC: “In book eight, which takes place 11 years later, Ross is on a special mission for the government abroad.

How did he go from being a restless, sometimes reckless, and somewhat disillusioned MP who gave up on ever really “making a difference” in the world to being sent by the Crown as Special Agent Poldark to Portugal to report on Napoleon’s Peninsula War?”

The BBC, which aired the season earlier this year in the U.K., summarizes what happens in the season that gives some answers.

It says: “A new century brings hope for the future, but the past still haunts Cornwall. After Elizabeth’s death, Ross Poldark (Aidan Turner) decides to leave Westminster and spend more time with the people he loves.

But when an old friend needs help, Ross has to go against the rules and think about how loyal he is to the king and country.”

The summary continues, “As the Enyses (Luke Norris and Gabriella Wilde) rally to join the cause, Demelza (Eleanor Tomlinson) must deal with dangers close to home, while George (Jack Farthing) woos corrupt powers whose influence spans the Empire.”
