Cast and characters

After surviving Order 66, a former Jedi Master goes by the nickname “Ben” and spends his days on Tatooine keeping watch over a young Luke Skywalker. McGregor was pleased to play a version of the character closer to Alec Guinness’s portrayal from the original Star Wars trilogy than his own younger version from the prequel trilogy, with Kenobi beginning the series “fallen, and faithless, and defeated, [having] somewhat given up”. Executive producer Michelle Rejwan described Kenobi as being at a “very terrible time” following his losses in Revenge of the Sith (2005), including his apprentice Anakin’s turn to the dark side of the Force.

While it’s possible that Kenobi still has feelings for Anakin, filmmaker Deborah Chow is intrigued by the concept that he would feel terrible about leaving him for dead on Mustafar. Head writer Joby Harold claimed the series would tie the “extremely emotional” version of Kenobi in the prequels to Alec Guinness’s “zen master” in A New Hope (1977). (1977).
