The NCAA Women’s Championship continues. Here’s a quick preview of the games scheduled to start within the next few hours:
No. 4 Maryland vs. No. 13 Delaware (about 5 p.m., ESPNU): The Terrapins (21-8) earned the right to host the first two NCAA games though Overcoming many injuries This season, coach Brenda Friese has also dealt with her father’s death in January. Delaware (24-7) includes CAA Player of the Year Jasmine Dickey, who has 27 points and 18 rebounds in the tournament final.
No. 7 Utah vs. No. 10 Arkansas (5:30 p.m., ESPNews): Team Utes (20-11), returning to the NCAA Championship for the first time in 11 years, features freshman Gianna Kneepkens, who was named Pac-12 Freshman of the Year and first-team all-Pac-12. Arkansas (18-13) has secured three consecutive NCAA berths for the third time in the program’s history.
No. 8 KS vs No. 9 Georgia Tech (7:30 p.m., ESPNU): The Jayhawks (20-9) last won the NCAA Championship bid in 2013 and have only collected their second record in the past nine seasons (they only won seven games last season). Georgia Tech (21-10) rates only 65.5 ownerships per 40 minutes, according to Her Hoop Stats, one of the slowest in the country.
No. 1 Louisville vs. No. 16 Albany (around 6 p.m., ESPN2): The Cardinals (25-4) have had the third seed finish first in the past four seasons despite falling to Miami at the ACC. Louisville has 10 players at a rate of doubling in minutes. The Great Danes (23-9) includes three players from Sweden, including lead scorer Helen Hegerstrand.
No. 6 Georgia vs. No. 11 Dayton (7:30 p.m., ESPNews): Lady Bulldogs (20-9) won at North Carolina State in December, handing top seed Wolfpack one of his three losses of the season. Georgia center Gina Stetty, who started her college career in Maryland, was named to the SEC first team after averaging 15 points and 7.8 rebounds per game.
