“Desperately Seeking Susan” earned Madonna $80,000 in 1985.
The next year, she was paid $1 million to feature in a film with her then-husband, Sean Penn.

For “Body of Evidence,” she received a career-high salary of $2.5 million-plus a percentage of gross in 1993.

Madonna Is Also a Successful Businesswoman
Maverick Entertainment was formed by her in 1992.
In a joint venture with Time Warner, she received a $60 million advance and 20% of the music publishing division’s royalties.
Her coffee table book “Sex” was one of the first pieces she launched through her Maverick enterprise (1992).
Despite controversy and a considerable unfavorable public reaction over the book’s sexual nature, it sold 1.5 million copies at $50 apiece in its first few days.
Her other book projects include a five-book deal with Callaway Arts & Entertainment to write for children.

She’s also had several brand collaborations and endorsement deals, including one with Pepsi in January 1989.
Collection of Works of Art
Madonna has a collection of artworks valued at least $100 million, and in the appropriate art market, it might be worth much more.
In addition to works by Picasso, Diego Rivera, Damien Hirst, and Marilyn Minter, she owns one of just five Frida Kahlo paintings.
Madonna has a big real estate portfolio that includes properties all over the world, which is maybe unsurprising.
She had SIX houses in London alone at one point.
It’s unclear how many of them she still owns; some were probably traded to Guy Richie during their divorce.
Madonna purchased an 18th-century mansion on 5.5 acres in Sintra, Portugal, for just under $9 million in September 2017.
She possessed a 6,000-square-foot condo in New York City for many years, which she sold for $16 million in 2013.
She still owns a smaller apartment in the same building, which she paid $7 million for in 2008.
But she doesn’t only live in New York City! She paid $32 million for a 12,000-square-foot townhouse in 2009, which had a two-car garage, NINE fireplaces, a wine cellar, and an elevator.
She also has a 50-acre equestrian estate in Bridgehampton, New York, which she bought in two deals for $7 million in 2010.
Madonna paid $12 million for a spectacular Beverly Hills property in 2003 when she was married to Guy Richie.
Sela Ward, an actress, and Howard Sherman, a venture entrepreneur, were the sellers. The property had a 17,000 square-foot home with 9 bedrooms, a full-size home theatre, gym, pool, and tennis court, and it was situated on 1.25 gated acres.
In 2012, she offered the house for $28 million on the market. She offered it for $22.5 million in 2013, and it sold for $19.5 million later that year.
Russell Weiner, the creator of the Rockstar energy drink, was the buyer. Russ sold the home for $35 million in 2018.
Madonna Spent $20 Million on the Weeknd’s Property in Hidden Hills
California, in April 2021. Madonna advertised this home for $26 million in April 2022:
Is Madonna Worth a Billion Dollars?
Madonna is not a billionaire, despite common belief. Madonna’s MDNA tour grossed $300 million in 2013, but a little-known Madonna fan site misconstrued that to infer Madonna was $300 million richer and hence a billionaire.
Her net worth was $650 million at the time. To begin with, even if Madonna made $300 million, she would only be worth $950 million after taxes, which isn’t nearly a billionaire.
However, the assertion that $300 million in gross concert revenue equals a net $300 million raise in her wealth is patently inaccurate.
The $300 million figure represents gross revenue, which is money before expenses are deducted.
After all, expenses are deducted, Madonna is lucky to take home 10-20% of her tour’s income.
That would still be a substantial sum of money, but nowhere near $300 million.
Unfortunately, several credible news organizations contributed to the spread of this false myth by reporting it as fact on hundreds of websites, magazines, and newspapers.
There Are Numerous Entertainment Moguls
On the list, there are numerous entertainment moguls (David Geffen, Oprah Winfrey).
However, there are no billionaires who made their fortune as musicians or actors.
Not Diddy, Jay-Z, Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie, or Madonna, for example.
However, just this week, the blogosphere was ablaze with claims that the Material Girl had become a millionaire.
The majority of the stories claimed a WWD story as the source of this information, which was incorrect (representatives from the publication confirm that no such piece exists).
Probably as a result of a New York Post article that first linked to WWD before redirecting to another site.
Madonna isn’t on our Billionaires list for a simple reason: she isn’t a billionaire.
Six years ago, we assessed the singer’s net worth to be $325 million.
Since then, our wealth team has kept track of how much money she’s made through our Celeb 100 list, and while she’s made a lot of money.
Madonna Net Worth: The Figures Don’t Add Up to Over $1 Billion
In 2007, she was paid $72 million, $40 million in 2008, $110 million in 2009, and $58 million in 2010.
She didn’t make our list in 2011 due to a lack of touring and new albums, but she made another $30 million in the first half of 2012.
When you add it all up (plus whatever she made in 2011, let’s say $10 million), you get $320 million.
Reduce federal income taxes by 35 percent ($112 million), state and local taxes by ten percent ($32 million), and management, legal, and agency expenses by twenty percent ($64 million).
Before any expenses for housing, personnel, travel, or luxury goods, that leaves $112 million.
Madonna Net Worth: How About That Massive Musical Tour?
Madonna’s climb into the financial pantheon has been attributed to her past 12 months in the majority of recent reports.
Sales of her MDNA record and a $300 million world tour were cited as examples.
They mention $60 million in perfume sales, $75 million in tour item sales, and $30 million in other branding partnerships.
The distinction between gross ticket sales, gross earnings, and net earnings, on the other hand, is overlooked.
On the road, artists typically take home roughly one-third of gross ticket sales, so Madonna’s $300 million becomes $100 million.
She would have needed to sell $34 per person on her tour to make $75 million in retail sales (approximately $10 more than Justin Bieber).
Madonna’s Team Declined to Comment on This Story When Contacted by Forbes
As it appears to have been the case with all of the stories regarding her net worth that has been published in the last week.
This isn’t the first time FORBES has weighed in on exaggerated claims about the singer’s billionaire status; in 2010, staff writer Clare O’Connor disproved one such claim.
Madonna is a cultural icon and unquestionably one of the world’s most successful artists.
One day, she may be worth a billion dollars. However, she is currently just about halfway there.

Madonna has been roundly mocked on the internet after releasing a peculiar collection of NFT movies that include explicit digital scans of her own vaginal area as well as naked portrayals of herself giving birth to trees, butterflies, and robotic centipedes.
On Wednesday, the 63-year-old generated confusion and even outrage on social media when she presented the racy NFT collection, which soon sparked a whirlwind of responses on Twitter, with many dubbing her “desperate for attention” and labeling the clips “cringe,” “creepy,” and “scary.”
