Imane “Pokimane” Anys, a popular Twitch streamer, has been seen publicly with what appear to be “artificial teeth” for nearly a month now; however, she is not doing so for reasons related to her appearance. Instead, it is so that she can get treatment for a health problem that has turned her life into a “living hell.”
Pokimane started hearing a ringing sound in her right ear whenever she attempted to fall or stay asleep around a month ago. A professional dismissed it as tinnitus caused by congestion and recommended medicine to clear things up; nevertheless, the issue remained after taking the medication.
A second physician examined the patient and determined that they had an infection in their middle ear and ordered antibiotics. However, the issue continued to exist and even became more severe, to the point that it negatively damaged the quality of her life. She remarked that the ringing had become unmanageable. “From that point on, my life was a living misery.”
She continued by saying, “For what seemed like a week, I was constantly exposed to the sound of ringing.” I struggled to get a good night’s rest. I wasn’t able to do much of anything at all. I was in such a funk. I had no appetite. I felt like complete doo-doo.”
Pokimane did end up going back to the physician, and when she did, they advised her to stop taking the drug altogether. She started to feel much better almost immediately, but the faint ringing that had been in her ear remained for the rest of her life. Therefore, she decided to investigate the matter on her own and came to the conclusion that it might be related to some pain that she was experiencing in the temporomandibular joint on the right side of her face. This joint connects the jaw to the skull.
A CT scan revealed that she may have alignment issues with her jaw, which may be the source of the tinnitus. As a result, the specialist fabricated a set of what Pokimane referred to as “artificial teeth” for her to wear while her jaw is being realigned temporarily.
She claimed that when she was wearing them, her bottom teeth appeared to be much longer than they typically would have been. “I can’t get used to this feeling. I’m not used to being like this. My cheek is starting to get sore. I simply really want it to be helpful.”
Pokimane suggested that even if the replacement set of teeth looks to cure the issue, she may still need to wear braces for an extended period of time in order to permanently correct the problem. She said, “Imagine having braces on your teeth when you’re in your mid-20s!”
However, despite the fact that it has been a difficult journey, Pokimane has maintained her bright and positive attitude throughout. Even the Moroccan-Canadian celebrity made a joke about the possibility of being forced to wear braces due to their influencer status.
“I can’t do it. Sorry! “Not me,” she said while attempting to speak with a British accent as best she could. “I am a person of influence. I need to provide some stuff. I’m not sure if I’m up to the challenge. We’ll see!”
