In college, he started working for several companies, including Asha Corporation. After he got his degree, he worked for Sternberger Design and did part-time work for Boyd Coddington. After three years at Sternberger, he left because he got a much better offer from J Mays. He then went to work for Ford. After working for Ford a few times, Chip decided to leave the company again and join the Boyd Coddington design team, where he worked full-time.
Coddington made Boyd, a company that makes hot rods with new, fresh ideas. He worked on notable projects like the Boydster and Boydster II during that time. His skills like designing, building, painting, and welding improved as he worked on these projects. After a few years, the company closed in 1998 because it had run out of money.
On the day he was about to leave his job, his girlfriend told him she was pregnant. So Chip couldn’t wait for a better job, and he and Steve Greninger, who also lost his job when the Boyd shop team broke up, worked from their garages in Orange for a few years. Because of their excellent skills and hard work, they were able to get all the team members, which they all called the Magic Machine.
